After six years in the making, the first South Florida Youth Summit is here. About 1,000 students have registered to spend at least part of their weekend learning how to become community leaders.
The summit is culmination of years of work by Shevrin Jones, 28, a dual-enrollment instructor at Florida Atlantic University.
The event has brought together dozens of mentor and youth-group organizations, such as the YMCA and 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale, that want to empower students. [read more at Palm Beach Post, as reported by Janey Tate, South Florida News Service]
